A New Solidarity Cohort: Meet the Next Group of Social Justice Leaders

A New Solidarity Cohort: Meet the Next Group of Social Justice Leaders - Proteus Fund

The Solidarity Collaborative continues to gain momentum. As tangible results from the first cohort are coming to fruition, another cohort is starting its solidarity journey. With each new racial and social justice leader and organization that joins this work, the table gets bigger. Each new cross-movement connection is another step toward the vision of a strong, sustainable national solidarity network.

After a thoughtful and insightful selection process, nine extraordinary movement leaders were invited to join the 2025 Solidarity Collaborative Cohort. Their work reflects the breadth, depth, and diversity of movements across the country.

Meet the cohort participants and read what they hope to contribute about their organizations’ work to advance shared learning with their peers.

"Real change is rooted in real relationships and that is what I am here to cultivate. "Real change is rooted in real relationships and that is what I am here to cultivate. In solidarity, I come to this peer group to learn and to build genuine relationships with others who share a commitment to racial justice and building collective community power. I hope to grow through honest dialogue, deepen my personal understanding by hearing the experiences of those in this circle, and develop the kind of trust that only comes from showing up consistently for one another."

Before joining the Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans, Daniela worked with previously incarcerated youth, provided community education on relationship violence, and led food justice initiatives.

Forward Montana

I hope to bring insight from a youth and rural perspective to this work. Being in a rural, majority white state, it's important to consider what solidarity looks like in the context of places where people are not necessarily always where we're at already on issues that we care about. I hope to bring insight from a youth and rural perspective to this work. Being in a rural, majority white state, it's important to consider what solidarity looks like in the context of places where people are not necessarily always where we're at already on issues that we care about. How are we always considering what it looks like to build the movement space in a way that supports people's growth? That perspective is what I'm excited to bring to this cohort.

Prior to joining the Forward Montana team, Alice worked across the state, expanding voting access through voter registration, voter mobilization, civic engagement, and legislative advocacy.

Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ)

"I hope to explore how we can translate solidarity into real actions, behaviors, and mindsets. What does solidarity look around resourcing our movements? How do we show up together when we have conflicting access needs? "I hope to explore how we can translate solidarity into real actions, behaviors, and mindsets. What does solidarity look around resourcing our movements? How do we show up together when we have conflicting access needs? SURJ is fundamentally a solidarity organization, and I hope to share what we've learned over the past decade of solidarity organizing. As we enter authoritarian consolidation, when our solidarity with one another will be tested, I also hope to learn from others about how we can strengthen the underpinnings of solidarity and weave a stronger web together that can take on the next decade of organizing."

Ava Bynum is the Director of Impact at SURJ, a national network dedicated to organizing white people for racial and economic justice by building people power in multi-racial communities.

"Right to Democracy (RtD) has built a Cross-Territorial Coalition with deep and meaningful relationships and a sense of community that transcends geographic boundaries, racial, cultural and political differences, and status preferences. Disability Culture Lab

"At Disability Culture Lab, we ground our work in the fact that, from racism to xenophobia, all forms of oppression are disabling. And that compounds for the multi-marginalized amongst us. "At Disability Culture Lab, we ground our work in the fact that, from racism to xenophobia, all forms of oppression are disabling. And that compounds for the multi-marginalized amongst us. That means cross-movement solidarity that seeks to dismantle that oppression from all angles is crucial to moving us all to liberation. I hope my cohort can bring that lens to our work together and apart, using it to inform how we show up for each other and how we make space within our home movements"

Kenrya Rankin is Managing Director at Disability Culture Lab and an award-winning author, communication and narrative change strategist, journalist, and disability justice advocate.

"Organizing Jewish New Yorkers in the city with the largest number of Jews in the world -- and also one of the most diverse cities in the world -- presents us at JFREJ Community with both an opportunity and a responsibility to constantly practice, model, and reinforce what it means to organize from a place of solidarity and care, not isolation and fear. The forces attempting to divide Jews from our neighbors are relentless, but our work to lean in and build our movement across all lines of difference, is powerful and growing. I'm excited to share our learnings and experiences in our specific context, but most of all, I'm excited to get out of my New York bubble and learn about the experiences of leaders organizing in entirely different spaces and places."

Audrey Sasson is the Executive Director of Jews for Racial & Economic Justice (JFREJ), a grassroots Jewish organization that mobilizes thousands of members toward racial, economic, and social justice.
